Hospice Care
Hospice is a philosophy of care rather than a place. Hospice care is a specialized field that focuses on caring and comforting rather than curing those with a life-limiting illness. Hospice of Central PA provides care in the place you call home. That may be your home, an independent or assisted living community, a personal care home, a skilled nursing facility, or in our hospice residence called Carolyn’s House.
Who provides hospice care?
Hospice care is delivered by an interdisciplinary team made up of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, chaplains, certified nursing assistants, and volunteers. In addition to these services, Hospice of Central PA is pleased to offer complimentary therapies such as palliative massage and music therapy.

What makes hospice care so valuable?
Hospice care empowers patients to be part of their plan of care as they live out their final months. HCP provides support to them and their loved ones as they focus on quality time spent together by relieving physical, emotional, and spiritual discomfort. Family and caregivers also benefit from the care offered by social workers, chaplains, and bereavement care coordinators.
When is it time for hospice?
Many believe hospice is for those within the last days or weeks of life. In fact, people suffering from a serious illness can receive hospice care for months prior to death. Often times, families say they wish their loved one had received hospice care earlier. In order for someone to access hospice care, they must be diagnosed by a doctor with a serious illness that limits their life expectancy to 6 months or less if the disease process takes its natural course.
